User Anonymization
Anonymize user data for GDPR compliance by removing PII while preserving activity history and data integrity.
User Anonymization Overview
User anonymization helps protect user privacy by removing or masking personally identifiable information (PII) from your data. This is essential for GDPR compliance and privacy protection.
When to Anonymize Data
Anonymize user data in situations such as:
User requests account deletion
User exercises their "right to be forgotten"
Data no longer needs to be identifiable
Transitioning inactive users to anonymous status
Moving data to long-term archival storage
Anonymization Process
Go to Settings → Organization → Anonymization
Search for the user you want to anonymize
Review what will be anonymized
Confirm the anonymization
What Gets Anonymized
The anonymization process removes or transforms:
Email Addresses - Replaced with hashed or anonymized values
Names - Replaced with "Anonymous User" or similar
IP Addresses - Truncated or hashed
User IDs - Replaced with anonymous identifiers
Profile Data - Personal information removed
What's Preserved
Activity and relationships are preserved to maintain data integrity:
Actions performed by the user
Content created (with anonymous attribution)
Comments and votes
Timeline and chronological data
Reversibility
Anonymization is permanent. Once data is anonymized, it cannot be restored. Ensure you have proper consent and documentation before anonymizing user data.
GDPR Compliance
Use anonymization to fulfill GDPR requirements:
Article 17 - Right to erasure
Data Minimization - Keep only necessary data
